Typing and Formatting Text

Typing and Formatting Text

What is Touch Typing?

The process of typing without looking at the keyboard is known as Touch Typing. It involves typing with eight fingers and a thumb. In order to touch type properly, the fingers are required to be placed on the keys assigned to them.

What is Formatting?

The act of designing and making documents look professional by changing the font size, style, and color; and using the bold, italic, underline, and change case is called formatting text. Besides text formatting, paragraph and page formatting also play a significant role in building complex and eye-catching documents.

As typing and formatting are two different tasks. Therefore, text formatting and typing should be done separately. If the typist tries to format the text as he types, he will waste his precious time. It also reduces typing performance, speed, and accuracy.

Best Idea for Typing and Formatting

The best idea is to type all the text first and then format it in another go. The reason is that the human brain can force only one task at a time. Typists who do a single job at a time i.e. just typing, can achieve high performance and pay attention to detail in later steps.

In my opinion, trying to correct any spelling, grammar, or punctuation error at this stage is not fruitful. I have noticed many typists who struggle to type a single word three or four times because they want to fix the errors as they type. They are eager to do so. You can’t imagine how badly it affects the typing speed and accuracy.

As final words, just keep typing without considering typos, formatting, spelling or grammar mistakes. The idea is straightforward, one task at a time which will significantly simplify your job and could help you improve your efficiency.

This way, you can quit the habit of typing one-word time and again due to typos corrections.
